🦋🌹When I watched Gayle King share her story about discovering that her husband was involved with a close friend, it resonated with me. I could only imagine the emotions she felt in that moment because, in my own way, I have walked a similar path. Many years ago, while I was married to my first husband, the doorbell rang on a Sunday morning. When I answered the door, a woman stood there with another woman. She introduced herself and said she was interested in buying a house and wanted to speak with my husband, who worked in real estate at the time. I thought nothing of it. I went upstairs and told him someone was at the door asking for him. What I didn’t know then was that he had been having an affair with her throughout our marriage. Years later, after our divorce, he married that same woman. Like so many women, I have experienced heartbreak, disappointment, betrayal, and moments that tested my strength. But I have also learned that those experiences do not define who we are. What defines us is how we rise, how we heal, and how we continue moving forward. I am proud of Gayle for sharing her story because there are so many women carrying silent pain, believing that what happened to them somehow determines their worth or their future. It does not. I chose forgiveness. I forgave him. I forgave her. Most importantly, I forgave myself. The secret of things is that life continues to unfold in ways we never expect. Sometimes our greatest lessons come from our greatest disappointments. They teach us resilience, grace, strength, and the courage to begin again. Today, I am grateful for my journey.
