As my time in Dominica comes to a close, my heart is full in ways I haven’t felt in years. Returning home has been more than a visit — it has been a homecoming of the spirit. The welcome I received from my community, my town of Portsmouth, and my fellow Dominicans touched me deeply. You embraced me with open arms, open hearts, and genuine pride. I felt seen, celebrated, and supported by the very people who witnessed my beginnings. Sharing The Secret of Things here, where my story truly started, has been one of the greatest honors of my life. To stand before my people, to speak my truth, and to know that it resonated that is a blessing I do not take lightly. I could feel the love not only for me, but also for my late husband, Teddy Pendergrass. His music still lives in your hearts, and through your joy, your singing, and your memories, I felt his presence so strongly. Dominica reminded me that his legacy continues, not just abroad, but right here at home. To my fellow women thank you for your support, your encouragement, and for walking this journey with me through The Secret of Things. Your strength, your stories, your voices, and your courage mirror so much of my own path. Every embrace, every word of affirmation, and every sister-to-sister moment reminded me why I wrote this memoir. You have lifted me, inspired me, and stood with me in ways that touched my soul. I am honored to share this journey with you. This trip showed me that I have come full circle. I arrived as the little girl from Portsmouth who carried many wounds, stories, and dreams. I leave as a woman standing firmly in her purpose healed, strengthened, and ready for the next chapter that God has prepared for me. My journey is far from over. In fact, I believe it is just beginning. Thank you, Dominica, for reminding me who I am. Thank you for lifting me up. Thank you for loving me so openly. I go forward with renewed purpose, guided by faith, and anchored in the love of my people. On to the next chapter with gratitude, strength, and endless hope. ✨A Divine Reunion — November 12, 2025 I encourage you to read in the entirety 🦋✌🏽❤️ Some moments touch the soul so deeply that words can hardly capture them. This morning at DBS Radio, I experienced one of those moments a reminder that God’s timing is always perfect and that life has a way of bringing people and memories full circle. As I walked into the station, a young man greeted me warmly, “Hello Mrs. Pendergrass, welcome.” He then handed me a phone and said, “Someone would like to speak with you.” On the line came a familiar voice that instantly carried me back in time: “Hello Joan, this is Mike… Mike Labadie.” For a moment, I was speechless. My heart raced, my hands trembled it was Mike, a dear friend I hadn’t seen in more than fifty years. I could hardly believe what was happening. How ironic, that I would walk into a radio station for an interview, only to learn that my long-lost friend’s son works there. Truly, God has a way of bringing things together in the most unexpected ways. While I sat in the studio sharing my story of triumph, hardship, survival, and faith, Mike stood quietly behind the glass, listening to every word. When the interview ended, he walked in slender, graceful, with white locks flowing down his back and a familiar warmth in his smile. We hugged and neither of us could let go. As my tears ran down my face, Mike gently reached for a tissue and wiped them from my eyes. It was a joyful, healing moment the kind that reminds you of the beauty of human connection and the power of time, love, and divine alignment. This journey to Dominica has been more than just a visit it has been healing, grounding, uplifting, and a heartfelt reconnection to my roots. I’m sharing these photos and video of Mike and me with deep gratitude.
